Javier Fredes has for many years been one of the premier percussionists in Australia.

Born in Chile in 1969 and emigrated to Australia at the age of 5.

Javier has studied intensively in Cuba under the tutelage of the great Jose Luis Quintana, 'Changuito' 2000-2006.

He has also studied rumba and performed with Pascual Izquierdo Rodriguez (Clave Guaguanco) , Freddy Martinez (Yoruba Andabo) in Havana,Cuba and Ray Pereira. .

At 14 Javier worked with drummer Des McKenna, appearing on a number of television shows and touring with Blues singer Wendy Saddington.

Since then,Javier has performed/recorded/toured with the cream of Latin,Jazz,Dance and Pop artists including:  Los Cabrones, Rumberos, Kate Ceberano, Renee Geyer, Aboriginal singer songwriter Frank Yamma (Toured Spain), Doug de Vries, Sam Keevers, Barney McCall featuring world renown guitarist: Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ray Pereirra's Bongo Fury, Man Friday, Red Fish Blue which was nominated for the Bell Award for best Jazz Ensemble 2003, Decoy, Funky Latin outfit Azuka, Sally Ford, the Pachuco Playboys and many others!

Performing at numerous Festivals such as: Womadelaide, Wangarratta Jazz Festival, Sydney Jazz Festival, Port Fairy Music Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, St. Kilda Festival, New Caledonia Jazz Festival, Mandarin Hotel in Hong Kong and major cities in China with Brazilian Batucada on J&B Carnival Bus Tour 2006.

Javier has also a distinguished career as a percussion teacher/clinician giving special workshop performances with Ray Pereira for LP percussion in all major cities in Australia and is currently embarking on a national tour for the Meinl percussion brand which he is an "A" grade endorsee.
