Called “The Brush Master” by his peers and fans, Clayton has shown the world his mastery of drums and his versatility by playing and recording behind legends of the music industry as well as finding time to put his sound in all channels of media including books, Dvds, television, & movies. Born February 27, 1960 in Los Angeles, California he started playing at five years of age with those cylindrical containers called oatmeal boxes. He would soon progress to bongos and by age twelve his fascination with drums became so apparent his parents decided to send him to a music school for drum lessons. Clayton went on to get a degree in music in 1982 from California State University at Northridge. During his four year studies he played in clubs around L.A. behind artist who were mentors to him; Vocalist Ernie Andrews, O. C. Smith, Jimmy Weatherspoon, Saxophonist Teddy Edwards and the Gerald Wilson Orchestra. Education: Graduated from Cal State Northridge with a BA in Music in 1982 , after less than a year out of college he would land his first major job with Sammy Davis Jr. “ There was never anyone like him” says Clayton.
