After Leigh Fisher's very
impressive performance during the 2005 Open Category competition
finals, Drumtek invited Leigh to open the AUDW 2006 festival.
Born in Melbourne Leigh's intense passion
for music began at an early age. However it wasn't until
Leigh was 14 that he pursued the drum kit under the formal
guidance of Ryan Menezes. Leigh excelled in his musical
studies having received many prestigious awards throughout
his schooling.
Leigh has studied with Robi Parolin,
John Corniola and Tony Floyd and is currently completing
his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Performance at Box
Hill Institute of Performing Arts.
Leigh started playing gigs at age 14,
since then he has performed live on TV and around town
with many of Melbourne's great musicians. In 2005 Leigh
was awarded second place winner in "Australia's Best
Up and Coming Drummer" Competition Open Age Category
performing to a judging panel of Mike Mangini, Will Kennedy,
Brian Czempinski, The Drumbassadors, Graham Morgan, Johnny
Rabb, Paul Matcoott and Bruce Howieson.
Leigh's influences include Vinnie Colaiuta
, Steve Gadd, Bill Stewart, Tony Williams, Thomas Haake,
Virgil Donati and Steve Jordan whilst also being inspired
by DJ's such as LTJ Bukem, Shy FX, Squarepusher, Simon
Bassline , Ed Rush and Optical and Kj Sawka.
Leigh has a particular love for Electronica,
drum n bass, Latin and Jazz styles, and keeps busy with
Soul induced electronica act Describe Eliza, "Starstruck's"
Louie Lee Feltrin, various jazz projects and freelance
work.
