Tanya
Cavanagh
Tanya has been involved
in the music industry since the day she could walk, talk
& hit pots & pans. On spending a day with her,
it's evident that here is an artist who is infinitely
passionate about her craft.
Her interest in drumming was first recognized
by her Mother at age two when she disappeared during a
street parade, to be spotted later mesmerized by a group
of Scottish drummers!
What followed was a succession of episodes
where Tanya explored the art of banging pots and pans
and air drumming to her favorite tunes. Young habits die
hard, and at age eight, she undertook her first drum lesson,
which led to several guest appearances in her Mothers
band!
After establishing herself as a drummer,
Tanya further extended her musical ability on guitar &
vocals. She utilized these tools to experiment and explore
the world of composition and performance, which prepared
her for her studies at the Victorian College of the
Arts Secondary School of Music, where she majored
in orchestral percussion, with secondary studies in piano,
voice and composition.
Fast-forward to 2006 and Tanya is living
a musicians dream, earning a living entirely from music
and successfully avoiding a day job!
She has played alongside internationals such as Branford
Marsalis & Kenny Kirkland (members of Sting's band),
and in many bands has supported those including Joan
Jett, The Divinyls and The Tea Party...she
has also performed with Circus Oz, David Jones DRUM!
along with ARIA Award winning, Bachelor Girl.
Tanya is a highly sought after session
muso and regularly performs with classic 70's rock show
Mother and corporate outfits Girl Mansion &
Stand & Deliver.
She is also currently writing, recording and performing
material in the original band Blussh www.blusshmusic.com
Tanya has been teaching drums for the past ten years and
has been involved with the Newstead College Launceston
Summer School Facility and the Rock'n Roll High School,
and has presented workshops at Southern Cross University,
Lismore.
