
Javier Fredes leads an exciting and rewarding workshop exploring the different sounds of Latin Drumming.
The goal here is enjoyment through group performance.
Javier will demonstrate the essence of the Cuban sound that has created rhythms such Salsa, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba and many other rhythms that have become popular around the world since the Mambo explosion in the 50’s and again made popular by bands such as Buena Vista Social Club.
Course outline:
Level 1:
4 x 90 minute classes over 4 weeks
In this introductory course students will be given an overview of instruments such as Congas, Bongos, Clave, Guiro, Maracas.
Within 4 weeks, students will have learnt a simple rhythm on all instruments.
Level 2:
4 x 90 minute classes over 4 weeks
Level 2 is a challenging workshop which follows on from level 1.
Students will study Afro Cuban drumming tradition and will focus more on Conga technique.
Level 3:
4 x 120 minute classes over 4 weeks
Level 3 is an ongoing workshop/drumming circle that will explore not only Carribean rhythms and instruments but also touch on other Latin American sounds.
