Bryce Zelno

Bryce Zelno blends the formidable rhythmic techniques of an improvising drummer with the varied textures and ear for audience engagement of a contemporary DJ. His first statement for the interweaving of these two art forms was Astral Flex’s debut album I Can See My House From Here, fully improvised in a single studio session in 2019 with a hybrid of personally curated samples and acoustic drum elements. Further evolution of this personal style was heard in the Horatio Luna live band in 2021-2022, with audiences welcoming the kaleidoscopic display of varied drum tones within dance-floor filling house music.

Bryce has experience performing and tutoring in a breadth of musical contexts amongst a variety of ensemble sizes including Marching Bands, Stage Musicals, Small Jazz ensembles / Big Band, Rock/Punk, Contemporary and Experimental Metal, Balkan Brass and Solo Drum kit. Moreover, his experience performing around Melbourne in venues such as The National Gallery of Victoria, The Night Cat, JazzLab, The Evelyn Hotel, Colour Club and The ANZAC Day March have instilled the knowledge of how to adapt to any performance situation. As a finalist in Drumteks own Ultimate Drummers Weekend Open category 2016 and student of some of Melbourne's finest performers and instructors, Bryce understands the importance of streamlined tuition and effective practice to achieve musical goals in any style whilst remaining ruthlessly original and inspiringly creative.
